Citizens have gathered around the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations advanced in the neighboring country over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The attack resulted in in excess of 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as captives. It was the single deadliest day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel answered by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are considered accurate by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty enemies have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the prime minister stated on Tuesday.

He also promised to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will not pose a risk to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The national leadership postponed official memorials until 16 October - after the completion of the festive season - but events still were held throughout the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the relatives of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas attack was held in Tel Aviv. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was aired on Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was respected throughout the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' delegations gathered in the Egyptian coastal city of the Egyptian city for a second day of indirect talks to examine the conditions of the proposal.

A senior delegate knowledgeable about the negotiations indicated that an night meeting of indirect talks started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative said the earlier meeting ended without concrete outcomes, because of conflicting views over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not resume combat after the first phase of the deal.

He commented that the discussions are "challenging and have yet to achieve any major advancement," but mentioned that mediators are working hard to narrow the gaps between the both parties.

Key Issues in Negotiations

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The swap of the hostages still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance provision
  • After-conflict management of the region

Civilian Feeling

In the city's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose brother survived the incident on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were murdered and numerous more were captured by Hamas militants - explained: "No place appears as home any longer and until each abducted person are released none of us will feel safe."

"After we see all home again, we can feel relief again. Then we can begin to recover," she continued.

Outside the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people congregated to express their backing for the loved ones of the captives. Israel says forty-eight stay in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be surviving.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev explained: "We must do any agreement required for the hostages to be released. But we really want guarantees that we will be protected."

Research now frequently demonstrate that around seventy percent of Israeli citizens prefer the war to finish in exchange for the freedom of the captives.

Palestinian Situation

At the location of Nova festival, mourners gathered to pay their respects.

From that location, the noise of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the heavy Israeli attacks continued.

In the main city, bombardments were reported in the dawn of that day in the west side district, Rimal and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the night arrives, the anxiety comes with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike last year, described.

"My family are terrified of the attacks. Throughout the evening we are lying together, holding each other, especially my little child who puts his face on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we check the reports to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be completed and that the war will resume to us."

Medical Crisis

The medical facility in the urban area said it had accepted the bodies of six people by the daytime, including several killed in an Israeli strike in the south part area.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of that area said additional victims had been transported. An individual was killed by Israeli soldiers while seeking aid to the south, medics said.

Gaza's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
