Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
