Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Season on BBC
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a finale that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

Martin Compston called appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
