More than 50 unaccompanied minor migrants who disappeared soon after reaching the UK and while under the supervision of the authorities are yet to be found, as per information obtained.

Numerous of the missing children entered in small boats or hidden in the rear compartments of lorries and are presumed to have been seized by criminal networks. A specific county is commonly the location where they arrive.

Statistical Information Indicates Concerning Statistics

Publicly available records has registered 345 children going missing from the region, with 56 of those yet to be located.

Between 2021 and 2023, when designated facilities for children operated combined with hotels in various locations, 132 children went missing from the accommodations. Among them, 108 were subsequently located but 24 are remain unaccounted for.

Between 2020 and August 2025, 213 children disappeared from care facilities for these minors, with 182 recovered and 32 yet to be accounted for.

In the two scenarios, minors from Albania were the most numerous nationality to go missing, accounting for 50% the aggregate from the facilities, 68, and more than a quarter from the welcome hubs, 65.

The next most common ethnic groups to have gone missing from both places are Afghans subsequently Iranians.

Specialists said more needed to be done to locate the vanished minors. "Minors have not opted to go missing. These children should be participating in activities in the park and preparing for their exams, not servicing trafficking gangs in situations we know include being tied up, physically and sexually assaulted, and disciplined by being deprived of meals."

Legal Changes and Persistent Problems

In December 2023, following a long-running high court case concerning unaccompanied minor refugees disappearing from all hotels, the procedure of routinely accommodating children in hotels was deemed improper.

As an alternative, agencies pledged to strengthen security for these children by extending the use of care facilities. After that judicial outcome an additional 44 children have gone missing from these centres, with 10 yet to be found and 34 recovered.

"If a youth does go missing, the threat that they are being abused increases significantly and they are definitely more at risk to exploitation and trafficking."

We carry on regularly review our methods for new information if this occurs, sharing relevant information with local police forces and local authorities examining the issue."
