Fans Urge Arrest of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the actress are calling for that a man who breached a barricade and touched the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be detained or removed from Singapore.
A viral clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being taken in", though official papers showed that he was set to appear on the next day. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram feed contains clips of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney show in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last year.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user remarked.
Fans Express Concern Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Numerous followers blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote one more message on Instagram.
Several supporters also faulted security officers at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while others demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In footage spreading on the internet, Grande looked startled when she was touched by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of supporters had congregated in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The movie, to be released on November 21, is the sequel of a two-part adaptation of the popular theatrical musical Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected friendship between two distinct characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning film of last year in the UK, and earned ten Academy Award nods, earning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
