Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:
- Each team has only eight human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Support
"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while another details all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Input
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
