Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer behind a series of unforgettable images favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

His passing follows just weeks after he debuted his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
